Nikon "new camera concept" hypothesis...

Postby StanyB on Sun 11 Jul 2010 19:06

Will Nikon bring a hybrid camera?

In a current thread on Dpreview about the new concept camera, Michel Lammerse, Dutch professional photographer who partly lives in Japan, mentioned "and if it is a hybrid? :D "...
Taking into consideration that the Nikon CEO said a year ago that Nikon was going to amaze the market and taking into consideration that Michel Lammerse has very good connetcions in the industry I am imagining the possibility of a camera with both mirror and EVF (electronic view finder)....
The advantage would be that you have both the speed of a classic reflex for action and sports and the EVF for the integrated video application. For video recording with DSLR this would be a very big progress compared to looking to the LCD while capturing a movie or using live view...
The EVF would be very usefull as well for macro and astrophotography because of less vibration and for applications where you can't make noise like f.i. classic music concerts...

Just my thoughts... I'm convinced we'll see the answer on Photokina in september at last...
kindest regards,

Stany

Interesting hypothesis by Steve Bingham on Dpreview...

Postby StanyB on Mon 12 Jul 2010 08:38

Recently on Dpreview, Steve Bingham -US professional photographer whose interesting writings I follow since my first days in digital-, gives another interesting hypothesis about which he seelms to be quite sure this will be the way Nikon will follow for their "new concept line". :o

According to Mr. Bingham, the system used back in 2001 by Olympus for their E-10 will be the basis idea behind Nikon's "new concept".

I did a bit research on this and I found this interesting technical review on the Olympus E-10:

An image from this article(upresized in CS) how light is projected to the sensor:

And a complete cut from the E-10 which was exhibited in PhotoKina 2002(from Dpreview' 2002 photokina-report):

From bloomberg.com, an interview with Nikon President Mr. Makoto Kimura:

Nikon President Mr. Makoto Kimura wrote: “It could be any time this fiscal year or the following year, as new models are starting to sell,”
